Basic rules

Bridge is a trick-taking card game for four players, played in two partnerships. Players take turns playing cards in tricks, with the goal of winning the most tricks.

  1. Shuffle and deal a standard 52-card deck into two packets of 13 cards each
  2. Players sit across from each other in partnerships
  3. Players sort their cards into suits
  4. Players bid on how many tricks they think they can win in a particular suit
  5. The player who leads the first trick is determined by the auction
  6. Players take turns playing one card each to the trick, in clockwise order
  7. The player who played the highest-scoring card wins the trick
  8. The winning partnership scores the trick
  9. Repeat until all 13 tricks have been played
